A monumental moment in the local performing arts scene is officially unfolding! The upcoming event marks a historic turning point for Philippine theater, paving the way for groundbreaking creative milestones.

The wait is officially over as the stage is cleared for the first-ever Puregold Teatro Panalo. Following months of intense anticipation and nationwide buzz, the competition narrowed down an impressive pool of 373 entries from across the country. Ultimately, only 12 standout plays successfully secured their spots to make up the festival’s historic debut roster of finalists.

Following a meticulous review of hundreds of submissions by a panel of Philippine theater icons, the final 12 productions have been officially selected. Chosen for their compelling narratives, fresh perspectives, and daring creative directions, these standout works are now set to take the stage and spearhead a vibrant new era for local theater.

The long-awaited roster was officially revealed yesterday, October 14, 2026, during a dedicated live event at Gateway Mall’s Cinema 16. The chosen playwrights took center stage to accept their ₱100,000 talent fees, a milestone that formally launches their path as the historic trailblazers for the inaugural Puregold Teatro Panalo.

Puregold Teatro Panalo Festival Chair Ivy Hayagan-Piedad shared her enthusiasm regarding the historic final lineup, noting the exceptional volume of entries received from passionate Filipino theater practitioners across the nation.

“It was encouraging to see how many Filipino storytellers are eager to share their work, and it made choosing only 12 plays especially difficult. They remind us how much Filipino theater has to offer; how live experiences offer authentic connections, and how important it is to create more opportunities for these stories to find their audience,” said Hayagan-Piedad. “With Puregold Teatro Panalo, we hope to give these works the stage they deserve and, in our own way, help Philippine theater continue to grow.”

The 12 finalists—eight straight plays and four musicals—of the inaugural Puregold Teatro Panalo are:

An elite committee of the country’s most celebrated theater icons guided the rigorous selection process. Leading the charge is Festival Director Vincent A. DeJesus, an NCCA SUDI National Music Awardee and renowned composer-playwright. He is joined by two-time Philstage Gawad Buhay! winning director and actor Jenny Jamora, five-time Palanca Award-winning playwright Liza Magtoto, acclaimed film director and producer Marlon Rivera, and veteran theater artist and Palanca Awards Hall of Famer Atty. Nicolas Pichay.

Joining the team as Screening Committee members are multiple Palanca Award winners Dr. Layeta Bucoy and Allan Lopez, who screened the festival submissions and shortlisted the entries. Providing invaluable expertise and creative guidance to the festival is its Artistic Adviser, National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee.

With the backing of these esteemed theater pioneers, the festival’s inaugural roster reflects the very best of contemporary Filipino drama. This historic lineup serves as a powerful showcase, bringing the incredible imagination and diverse narrative talents of today’s local playwrights directly into the spotlight.

And this is only the beginning!

To bring their visions to life, all 12 finalists will receive full development and staging support from festival organizer Wishbone Collective Inc. This comprehensive backing ensures that the raw scripts are successfully transformed into high-quality, fully realized theater productions. Local theatergoers can officially look forward to experiencing these fresh, groundbreaking works when the Puregold Teatro Panalo runs from February 20 to March 14, 2027.
