Key Highlights:

  • The Danao Commissary earned LEED Gold certification under LEED v4.1 ID+C: Commercial Interiors.
  • The facility is the first manufacturing facility in the Philippines to achieve LEED certification for interior design and construction.
  • The project achieved 82.1% energy cost savings, 76.95% indoor water use reduction, 99.38% construction waste diversion, and 82.2% renewable energy utilization.
  • The Danao Commissary re-applied more than 30 sustainability initiatives proven in the Jollibee Group’s Luzon commissaries.

The certification supports the Jollibee Group’s Joy for Tomorrow sustainability agenda.

The Jollibee Group has reached a significant sustainability milestone with its Danao Commissary earning LEED Gold certification—making it the company’s first manufacturing facility to achieve this globally recognized green building standard.

Awarded under the LEED v4.1 Interior Design and Construction (ID+C) Commercial Interiors rating system, the certification recognizes the facility’s strong performance across key sustainability areas, including energy efficiency, water conservation, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation. Notably, the project secured 4 out of 5 innovation points for exemplary achievements in water efficiency, waste management, green cleaning practices, and sustainable lighting procurement.

Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious benchmarks for sustainable buildings worldwide, LEED certification underscores the Danao Commissary’s integration of environmentally responsible practices into its design, engineering, and day-to-day operations—without compromising productivity or operational efficiency.

“We’ve always envisioned sustainability as something we continuously build across our commissaries,” said Michael Ong, President of Jollibee Group Manufacturing and Logistics. “This milestone reflects the collective effort of our teams—from design and engineering to construction and operations—working together to create facilities that are efficient, high-performing, and environmentally responsible. It’s about using resources wisely, managing costs effectively, and delivering long-term value.”

Driving Sustainable Manufacturing Forward

Inaugurated earlier this year, the Danao Commissary is the Jollibee Group’s newest and largest manufacturing facility in the Visayas, strengthening its supply chain capabilities to support continued growth across the region.

The facility delivers measurable sustainability gains, including an impressive 82% reduction in projected annual energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions (excluding utilities and production equipment). These results are driven by advanced energy-efficient technologies such as VRF systems, LED lighting, smart controls, an optimized building envelope, enhanced commissioning, and on-site renewable energy systems that supply up to 82% of the building’s energy requirements.

Water efficiency is another standout achievement, with a 77% reduction in indoor water use for fixtures like toilets and lavatories, enabled by high-efficiency systems and smart design choices.

In construction, the project achieved a 99% waste diversion rate—thanks to robust waste management practices, on-site material segregation, and partnerships with recycling and recovery facilities.

Scaling Proven Sustainability Solutions

A key factor behind the facility’s success is the reapplication of over 30 sustainability initiatives already proven effective in the Jollibee Group’s Luzon commissaries. These include variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, variable frequency drives for motors and compressors, boiler economizers, wastewater treatment systems, solar-powered roofing and street lighting, and energy-efficient LED installations.

“This certification is a meaningful milestone in our Joy for Tomorrow sustainability journey,” said Pepot Miñana, Jollibee Group Global Chief Sustainability Officer. “It reflects our commitment to building and operating facilities more responsibly through practical, scalable solutions such as energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, and renewable energy use.”

Building a More Sustainable Future

The LEED Gold recognition reinforces the Jollibee Group’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes an increasing shift toward renewable energy sources such as geothermal power to further reduce the environmental impact of its operations.

More than just a certification, the Danao Commissary represents a blueprint for the future—demonstrating how sustainable design, innovation, and operational excellence can work together to create long-term value for both the business and the environment.

As the company continues to expand, initiatives like this ensure that growth is not only efficient—but also responsible, resilient, and future-ready.
