Filipino music is stepping onto a bigger global stage as Cup of Joe, Dionela, and Earl Agustin earn spots under consideration for the Best Song Asia category at the MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026.

Their respective tracks—“Multo,” “Marilag,” and “Tibok”—highlight the growing strength of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) on the global stage, signaling how Filipino artists are gaining momentum not only on streaming platforms but also among international audiences.
Now in its second year, MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN (MAJ) continues to establish itself as Japan’s premier international music awards platform. Launched in 2025 by the Japan Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association, the initiative brings together five major Japanese music industry bodies with a shared goal: to elevate Asian music and foster cross-border cultural exchange.
What sets MAJ apart is its industry-led voting body, composed of respected music professionals, ensuring that recognition is grounded in artistic merit, cultural relevance, and industry impact.
With a clear international vision, MAJ aims to go beyond Japan and position Asian artists on a unified global platform. This direction reflects a broader shift in the music landscape—one where regional sounds increasingly resonate across borders.
The Best Song Asia category exemplifies this mission, bringing together standout tracks from across the region. Alongside the Filipino entries, the lineup includes globally recognized artists such as REI AMI, AUDREY NUNA, David Guetta, and Regina Song—underscoring the increasingly interconnected nature of today’s music industry.
Further amplifying regional recognition is the International Special Award, developed in collaboration with leading music award bodies across Asia. This category honors outstanding artists from key markets including South Korea, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam—reinforcing MAJ’s commitment to building a more cohesive and globally visible Asian music ecosystem.
The official nominees for Best Song Asia will be announced on April 30, with fans invited to participate through the Best of Listeners’ Choice, in partnership with Spotify, from April 30 to May 20, 2026.
Winners will be revealed during the official awards ceremony on June 13, marking another milestone moment for Asian music—and potentially, a breakthrough for Filipino artists on the global stage.
