Pop duo Darren Cashwell dives into the chaotic thrill of love with their electrifying new EDM-pop single, “WISH WE NEVER,” out now under Star Music.
This latest release, composed and produced by the dynamic duo Darren Macanaya and Cashwell Macanaya, delves deep into the whirlwind emotions of falling too hard in love, only to regret the encounter altogether. The track perfectly captures the frustration and intensity that comes with a love story gone wrong.
“We started working on it in mid-2025, and we were asking ourselves, ‘How do we evolve our sound for the new music we want to make? ’” Darren shared. “We looked through our Instagram archives and stumbled upon old DJ videos from when we were playing at music festivals. That’s when Cash had the idea of blending our previous EDM DJ sound with more pop elements.” From there, the creative process took off as they explored a range of drafts in the studio before settling on the final version.
The duo also collaborated with rising talents from the Kapamilya roster, including Jeremy G, Kolette Madelo, and P-pop group WRIVE, bringing fresh energy and ideas to the project.
“Working with them is always a blast,” Darren added. “The ideas just keep flowing, and the vibe is so open and collaborative. It feels more like bonding with friends than actual work, which makes the creative process so much more fun.”
Darren Cashwell, originally hailing from Manila, first made waves in the EDM scene back in 2013 as DJs. They burst onto the music scene with their debut single, “I Know,” in 2018, which gained 100K streams within its first few weeks. Following that, they released a series of high-energy tracks like “Take It Higher,” “Bring The House Down,” “Make Me,” and “Fresh” from 2019 to 2021. In 2025, their debut extended play, “kinda not so in love,” surpassed 200,000 streams on Spotify, further cementing their place in the music world. They also teamed up with Jeremy G and Chie Filomeno for the sultry R&B track “Parking Lot.”
Musically, Darren Cashwell cites influences from global EDM icons like Zedd, Lauv, Gryffin, Illenium, Madeon, and Porter Robinson, and their evolving sound reflects these diverse inspirations.
Looking ahead, Darren Cashwell is excited about the year’s creative direction, hinting at a return to their EDM roots. “This year is going to be exciting because we’re bringing back the sound that started Darren Cashwell—EDM,” Darren teased. “But this time, it’s even better. Over the last 10 years of creating music, we’ve learned so much about production and finding our own unique sound, one that feels true to us. This year feels special because of that growth and evolution.”
