Breakthrough high-performance computing solution delivers 3x higher throughput, cost efficiency, and faster life-saving discoveries
Lenovo today announced the 4th generation of its Genomics Optimization and Scalability Tool – GOAST v4.0 – setting a new benchmark for genome sequencing performance and accessibility. Since its debut in 2020, GOAST has transformed research in pharma, healthcare, agriculture, and drug discovery.

With GOAST v4.0, whole genome processing can now be completed in as little as 24 minutes—a leap from the 68–150 hours of earlier versions. A single node can handle ~22,000 genomes annually, nearly triple the previous capacity. Considering that each human genome holds about 3 billion DNA base pairs, the tool is literally decoding trillions of cells to drive medical and scientific breakthroughs.
By shrinking genome analysis from days to minutes, GOAST v4.0 empowers researchers, clinicians, and pharma innovators to accelerate precision medicine, cancer research, drug discovery, and national health initiatives. And with GPU-level performance delivered on optimized CPUs at up to 50% lower cost, GOAST is democratizing access to genomics through Lenovo TruScale HPC-as-a-Service.
“GOAST v4.0 breaks bioinformatics bottlenecks by combining Lenovo’s HPC expertise with genomics innovation,” said Sumir Bhatia, President, Lenovo ISG Asia Pacific. “This leap in performance and efficiency enables real-time discoveries that can save lives and advance global health equity.”
What’s New with GOAST v4.0
- Unmatched Speed: Genome sequencing cut from days to 24 minutes – a 375x boost.
- Massive Throughput: ~22,000 genomes per node annually, enabling population-scale genomics.
- Lower Costs: GPU-class performance at a fraction of the expense.
- Wider Access: Pay-as-you-go model through Lenovo TruScale, opening doors for labs and agencies of all sizes.
- Greener Tech: Water-cooled HPC systems reduce energy consumption by up to 40%.
Global Impact
GOAST is already accelerating research at leading institutes such as CSIR-IGIB and the University of Delhi (India), BRIN (Indonesia), Novo Genomics (Saudi Arabia), and the Biobank of Thailand. In Australia, a leading children’s hospital is using it to scale genomics research, while in the Philippines, deployment is underway at a major medical research institute. Multiple pharma companies in India are also leveraging GOAST to advance cancer research, fast-track drug discovery, and improve treatments.
Beyond Genomics
GOAST also highlights how AI + HPC integration is reshaping science—optimizing algorithms, refining bioinformatics workflows, and pushing the frontier of precision health.
With Smarter AI for All as its guiding vision, Lenovo combines world-class HPC hardware, AI innovation, and cross-industry collaboration to deliver tools like GOAST v4.0—driving breakthroughs that are faster, more cost-efficient, and globally accessible.
