GRAMMY®-winning Icelandic-Chinese artist, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Laufey returns with her latest single, “Snow White”, offering listeners a deeply personal and hauntingly beautiful exploration of the pressures women face to meet impossible beauty standards.
Framed by her signature dreamy, cinematic soundscape, the track captures the quiet ache of self-scrutiny and the relentless pursuit of flawlessness.
“‘Snow White’ is about the never-ending chase for perfection that comes with being a woman — about looking in the mirror and seeing all the ways you feel you need to improve yourself,” Laufey shares.
A Visual Story Told in Her Homeland
Accompanying the single is a stunning music video, entirely filmed in her native Iceland and directed by her twin sister and creative director Junia Lin. The visuals weave icy landscapes with intimate close-ups, mirroring the song’s themes of vulnerability and self-reflection.

“Snow White” arrives ahead of Laufey’s highly anticipated new album, A Matter of Time, set for release August 22 via Vingolf Recordings / AWAL. Each of Laufey’s albums has marked a distinct chapter in her storytelling:
- Everything I Know About Love (2022) — tender coming-of-age narratives about leaving home
- Bewitched (2023) — a GRAMMY®-winning exploration of youthful romance, enriched by lush orchestral and jazz textures
With A Matter of Time, Laufey pushes her artistry further, loosening the boundaries of genre while staying rooted in her classical and jazz influences.
“Every new album for me is a blank book of stories to write,” she says. “This time, I just wanted to let my heart wander.”
A New Creative Freedom
For this project, Laufey teamed up once again with long-time collaborator Spencer Stewart, alongside acclaimed producer Aaron Dessner (Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran). This pairing allowed her to explore heavier themes while retaining her trademark warmth.
“People expect a pretty façade of girly clothes, fantastical stories, and romantic music,” Laufey notes. “This time, I wanted to look at the most flawed parts of myself and examine them directly.”
The result is an album both daring and playful, capturing the nuances of “real love” in all its forms—messy, vulnerable, anxious, and beautiful.
