In a resounding victory for cybercrime prevention, GCash extends its heartfelt commendation to the Department of Justice (DOJ), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) for their successful operations against cybercriminals.
In recent months, the collaborative efforts of the DOJ, NBI, and PNP-ACG have yielded a series of impactful raids and apprehensions of alleged cybercriminals. Notably, these operations have led to the apprehension of suspects involved in a variety of offenses, including love scams and task scams. The agencies have also managed to seize SIM cards believed to be linked to dubious activities.
These collective efforts represent a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against scammers, fraudsters, and other malevolent cyber actors. The tireless work of the authorities has underscored the determination to bring perpetrators to justice and safeguard the digital landscape.
“At GCash, we wholeheartedly support the diligent actions undertaken by the DOJ, NBI, and PNP-ACG in pursuing wrongdoers. We stand as active allies to our law enforcement partners, fostering the exchange of technical insights and cybersecurity expertise,” affirmed Atty. Maria Corazon PMR Alvarez-Adriano, Chief Legal Officer of GCash.
Beyond its collaboration with law enforcement agencies, GCash is also at the forefront of legislative advocacy. One notable initiative seeks to criminalize the illicit buying and selling of “mule accounts,” a ruse employed by criminals to obfuscate their identities during illicit money transfers.
Unwavering in its commitment to security, GCash continuously invests in cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions. Recently, GCash achieved the remarkable feat of 100% rollout for its pioneering security feature, DoubleSafe. This groundbreaking technology utilizes facial recognition (Face ID) to ensure that the account holder matches the individual who registered with GCash, thereby providing an extra layer of protection.
Miguel Geronilla, Chief Information Security Officer of GCash, explained the significance of the DoubleSafe Face ID feature, stating, “Even if users inadvertently disclose their MPIN or OTP, unauthorized access to their account from a new device is thwarted without the owner’s facial scan.”
Complementing its technological advancements, GCash remains dedicated to empowering its users and the wider public with knowledge on safeguarding against scams. Through the #GSafeTayo campaign, GCash disseminates educational materials to encourage vigilance against phishing sites and counterfeit links masquerading as official financial institutions and online shopping platforms.
To ensure utmost security, customers are strongly advised to transact exclusively through GCash’s official channels. Additionally, it is emphasized that GCash will NEVER initiate personal messages soliciting MPIN, OTP, or other sensitive information from users.
To report scams and suspicious activities, GCash users are encouraged to utilize the official Help Center within the app or visit help.gcash.com. The collaboration between vigilant citizens and GCash remains instrumental in upholding the integrity of the digital realm.
