Globe GCash, Kiva tie up for crowd funding

Engage in nation-building by extending financial support using your mobile phone.

Philippines operator Globe Telecom has recently signed a partnership with Kiva, a global non-profit online lending platform. With this GCash serves as an donation service for Filipinos who are looking for an alternative source of funding capital. G-Xchange Inc. (GXI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Globe, is the first and only Southeast Asia-based company to partner with Kiva on this project.

During the campaign launch, Globe awarded a cheque worth USD10,000 to Kiva as seed money. Present in this event were Globe President and CEO Mr. Ernest Cu, G-Xchange Inc. President Mr. Paolo Eugenio Baltao, Philippine Cooperative Center Chairman Emiritus Sen. Agapito “Butz” Aquino and G-Xchange Inc. VP Business Development Ms. Cecilia Grace Castillo.

This crowd funding initiative can provide loans to local livelihood programs in the areas of agriculture, food, retail, and services such as Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation, BagoSphere, Paglaum Multipurpose Cooperative, etc. Stories are uploaded daily on Globe’s Kiva page (http://www.kiva.org/team/globe), where you can also monitor donations, according to Ms. Castillo.

Globe or TM users with a GCash account can donate any amount via *143#: choose “GCASH”, select “DONATE TO KIVA”, choose “DONATE” and enter amount, your GCash PIN and email address. A confirmation message will be sent via SMS. Post the “I’m a Kiva donor” badge sent via email on your social media accounts with the hashtags #TeamGlobe and #ImaKivaDonor.

If you do not have an existing GCash account yet, register via *143# or the GCash app.
